Biography of Professor Ngoc Dung
Ngoc Dung is a former musical professor specializing in Dan Tranh (or Zither), at the Department of Art/National Conservatory of Music and Drama College, Saigon, Vietnam from 1967 to 1979. In 1967, she was the co-founder of the “Hoa Sim”.
In 1969, she was a part of “Dan Van Quoc Ngoai” to perform and promote traditional Vietnamese music in Zither, traveling through France, England, Germany, Belgium, and Rome on a European tour. In 1974, she performed at a world conference for youth in Quebec, Canada.
She came to the United States in 1979 and settled in San Jose, California. With the purpose of preserving and perpetuating traditional Vietnamese music in America, she re-established the musical group “Hoa Sim”. In 1980, and later she founded another musical group called “Tieng Vong Que Huong” (or “Echo of the Mother Land”) in 1985.
